IMWAYR and #2 Book Review: Short UPDATE

Just yesterday, I finished the book called “Short.” It was really good! It’s a book that is meant for readers who like happy books. There are those occasional moments in the book where it is a little sad, but it’s mostly a happy book. The main reason that I think I really liked this book and why it stood out to me more than other books I have read, is that I really, really liked the main character. If there is a book where I really like at least one character, (preferably the main character) I enjoy the book even more. This is why I definitely recommend this book, because I know that anybody who reads this book will love the main character. I also really like the story-line because it’s something that I don’t feel I have ever read and keeps you wanting to read more and more. It’s different, and I like that. You’ll understand what I mean if you read it, so please do! Now what you have all been waiting for… my rating for the book. I rate it 5 out of 5! It’s an extremely good book and I really encourage every one of you to go order the book when it’s out! By the way, I have never read any of Holly Goldberg Sloan’s books before, but I know she wrote a book called, “counting by 7s.” I think it’s a pretty famous book because I know lots of people who have read it and liked it. I look forward to reading it soon. The book I have just started is called, “The Bridge To Never Land”. The authors of the book are Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. I just found out that they are the authors of the famous series called, “Starcatchers”. I am only a few pages into the book, so I don’t know too much. I will make a follow-up post about this book. I can’t guarantee that I will be finished by next Monday for the “IMWAYR” because it’s a VERY long book. So anyways, comment below what book you’re currently reading and there is one very important thing I want you to do, I want you to recommend some book to me! I don’t have a very long list of books that I want to read, so it would be great if you could suggest some to me. Thanks!

Reflection of Starting Middle School

When I first started middle school I was a complete mess. On the first day, I was having so much trouble with my locker, that it took me about 10 tries to open it! Another problem I had was that I was so scared of being late for my next block, that I never had time to clean my locker, and it was left a complete mess. The biggest problem was that there were SO MANY hallways and classrooms that I would often find myself lost, and eventually be late for class. I was not used to being in such a huge school and having a schedule that changed depending if it was A day or B day, that I had trouble for about the first two weeks. Now, it has been almost 3 months and it’s definitely getting better. I memorized my schedule and I pretty much know where to go in the school without having a problem. Since I know what my next class is at the top of my head, I know when it is a good time to get my locker cleaned, but it’s still a bit of a problem because my locker gets messy fast. Over time, it was easy to get into the flow of things. I’m definitely getting the hang of everything than when I first started middle school.

What I’m Doing for Winter Break!

As we all know, winter break is coming! For winter break, my family always goes on vacation for the two weeks. This year, I will be going to Orlando, Florida! I have been there before, but this time, I am going to Universal Studios! I have always wanted to go there because they have so many rides, and I absolutely love rides! (Especially the tallest and scariest ones!) Another exciting thing is that I’m not only going with my family, I’m going with my cousins too! I will arrive a few days earlier than them, but we are going to go on all the rides together. Fortunately, the weather is very nice and warm in Florida -unlike Virginia- in the winter, so I will also be going to the beach! Since, I will arrive in Orlando earlier than my cousins, I will probably be doing some extra things like going to a museum or going for some hikes. I love hiking! I’ve been waiting for this trip for a long time, and I can’t believe I’m actually going this year! Now, I only have to wait for about a week to go on vacation! I can’t wait!

IMWAYR and #2 Book Review: Short

IMWAYR stands for “It’s Monday, what are you reading?” So starting today, every Monday I will be writing a post about the book I am currently reading, which contains information like: if I recommend it, what I rate it, and lots more! The book that I am currently reading is called Short, and the author is Holly Goldberg Sloan. This book is an “ADVANCED READING COPY” which means that the book isn’t actually out yet for people to buy. I was able to get this book in advance from my teacher to do what I’m doing now, writing a review about it and inform others what I think about the book before it’s out! Anyway, I found this book VERY similar to another book I read a while back ( I wrote a book review on it! Check it out!) called, “Maxi’s Secrets”, because both books have a similar character and face similar problems. Another unusual similarity is that both characters owned dogs which plays another big role in the story line. So far, I’m really loving the book, and I definitely recommend it to those of you who like reading books about Realistic Fiction. I’m about ¾ done with the book, so I will also make a “follow-up” post when I’m done reading it. Comment below and tell me what book you’re reading!

Wonderopolis Writing: Why Do Birds Fly in a V?

To this day, know one knows why birds that fly in flocks, fly in formation. When they fly, they form what looks like a V. No one knows why, but that’s just how it is. However, there are two very famous theories. One of the theories is that flying in this exact formation in a flock makes it easier for the birds to fly. When the birds fly, the air flows off the tip of the birds wings causing the birds in the back of the V to get a boost. This results in the birds at the back of the V to use less energy. Over time, the birds take turns in different positions of the V. When the birds at the front of the V get tired they move to the back of the V where there is less wind resistance and then the next bird comes up to lead.

The second theory is that birds that fly in a V formation offers the other birds a better line of eyesight. This is useful so each bird can keep track of each other. This second theory came to be because groups of fighter pilots arrange themselves in a V formation for the same reason.
